Selfish

Am I being selfish? That’s what keeps going through my mind. To put him through all this and the surgeon says I’ll get another year out of him. He’s so healthy now besides the leg issue I can not picture not doing everything I can for him. After reading alot of posts on here I see a lot of people feel the same as me . Lost, heartbroken, and confused and saying people they know don’t understand . I understand ,I get it. I’m in the beginning stages of this battle and it’s deflating. I don’t know what the future holds for my guy but I want to do everything that I can for him. We’re still waiting on biopsy results .theirs still a glimmer of hope this might be an infection but either way the leg has to go. I’m just telling my self that it is the osteosarcoma so I’m not disappointed when results do come in. 12 days till amputation

  1. Wanring a dog that you love with all your heart to be with you as pain free as possible for as long as possible is not selfish!
    It’s called love💖
We all understand your emotions, the fear, the uncertainty, the kick in the fut, the mental and physical exhaustion. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
As hard as it is to not focus on statistics, the main reason we do amputation is to relieve the pain. AND, yes, to get as much extended quality time as possible.
No one knows how long our dogs have…..or how long we have. All we know is that we gove them a chance. Some will definitely blow statistics out of the water, some will not. No matter what, you will know you are doing everything possible to give him that chance. And it sounds like your boy would want that chance.
The greatest lesson they teach us is to live in the NOW, in the moment , in the present! Sogs don’t count days on a calendar and they certainly don’t have a timeframe stamped anywhere on their butts. They make every moment be all that matters. They have no worries, they just enjoy being in the moment. And I have no doubt you will, make each moment t be the most spectacular moment any dog could ever want!
STAY CONNECTED! We are all here for you to help guide you through recovery and celebrate with uou as your pup lives life to the fullest pain free!!!

    1. Thanks! You just brought a tear to my eye.. all I can is the best for him! And I’m still figuring out this website so thank you!

  2. I am so sorry that you have had to go through this. It is a very difficult situation to have to decide. I found others in my community that have been through similar situations. One family only got one additional year with their pup and said they would do it again in a heartbeat. I hope you can find positive moments through this diagnosis, surgery, and treatment. I know that our dogs understand us when we talk to them and I think you just have to keep reassuring them that this is a good choice and gives you more time together. And also that you will go through this with your dog. We have not ventured out very much since Layla’s amputation, but I do see people that are very judgemental. I truly believe that medical advances have brought us to a time that we actually treat our animals for disease rather than putting them down. Although I think it is also a huge financial decision, and not everyone is in the position to pay for such treatment, which brings even more judgment toward the pet owner. You and your dog are so fortunate to have each other!

    1. Thank you I just gotta do what I can for my guy ! And sending love to Layla and you’re family ❤️
